Huntsville, TX-The Lutheran High Lady Mustangs volleyball team had an incredible year and took many monumental steps in a long journey that saw them go from a team that won three games the year before to vying for a district title in 2015. Unfortunately, the 2015 journey came end Tuesday night as Lutheran played the Alpha Omega Academy in the 2nd round of the TAPPS 2A playoffs.
Lutheran fell to the Lions in straight sets 25-8, 25-10, 25-15. The Lions were the 2A-District 8 champions and thus earned the home game against the district runner up Mustangs.
“Alpha Omega Academy was probably the best team that we have seen this year. The girls came out and gave it their all,” said Head Coach Krista Freitag.
Lillie Hall led the way for the Lady Mustangs with a team high 3 kills and 1 ace. Emily Haase led the team with both 4 assists and 7 digs. Lila Williams and Domonique Richardson each had 2 kills, while Kim Moore added 2 kills to go along with 3 aces.
“I am so proud of these girls and where we have come this season. I’m especially proud of how they bonded together and overcame many challenges,” said Freitag.
The Lady Mustangs finished with a final record of 19-15. Lutheran finished with a 9-2 record in district play and achieved a 9 game winning streak along the way.
“Although I am sad to see this season end, I am looking forward to next year and the opportunity to build upon the foundation that was set this year!”
The Lady Mustangs will graduate two seniors, Savannah Senger and Morgan McKinnerney, off the team who were instrumental to the team in helping the freshman make the adjustment from middle school volleyball to varsity volleyball. Their leadership will be missed.
