The Lutheran High Mustang Baseball team made the best of their home opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs used strong pitching and timely hitting to upend Veritas Academy 7-2.
The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a lead off triple by Dawson Dullnig followed by a pair of RBIs by Luke Watson and Phillip Williams.
Lutheran would add another run in the third inning after a RBI by Bryce Connolly scored Jared Sherer. The Mustangs would tack on three more runs in the fifth and another in the fifth.
Dullnig led the offensive charge with a 4-4 day at the plate. He also scored 3 runs. Sherer added two hits, while Luke Watson added 2 RBIs and a double to help the cause.
Connolly was strong on mound, going four scoreless innings and giving up just 2 hits while striking out 6 to pick up the win. Sherer came in for the 3 inning save. He gave up 1 earned run while fanning 4 on day.
The Mustangs will travel to Judson to take on the 5A school freshman team in non district action on Friday. They will open district play on Wednesday, March 9th by hosting New Braunfels Christian Academy at 4 PM at Diamond Spikes Field.
