Multiple Teams · Mustang Basketball Haul in Post Season Awards

On the heels of a 28-8 season and a district championship, the Lutheran High Mustangs Boys Basketball Team is starting to receive post season accolades. The Texas Association of Private and Parochial School (TAPPS) announced it’s All District, All State, and Academic All States Teams recently.

Corey Friesenhahn, Jr: 1st Team All State, 1st Team All District. The junior point guard filled the stat sheet by averaging 12.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.7 steals per game. He shot over 50% from the field while leading the team in assists and steals. He was second on the team in points per game. Friesenhahn was also a First Team All District selection in 2014.

Collin Hunick, Jr: Honorable Mention All State, 1st Team All District. Hunick was the Mustangs leading scorer averaging 15.4 points per game. He shot 33% from the 3 point line while launching 249 three pointers. He shot 65% from the field, which led the team. Hunick also average 2.6 steals and 2.8 assists. Hunick is a repeat First Team All District selection.

Phillip Williams, Jr. Academic All State1st Team All District. The junior forward was one of the teams top scorers nearly averaging in double figures with 9.1 points per game. He tallied 5.4 rebounds a contest. Williams shot 60% from the field. He had a season high 26 points in the playoff game against Alpha Omega.

Luke Watson, Sr. 2nd Team All District. Watson averaged 3.6 steals and 4.9 rebounds to go with 4.6 points per contest. He led the teams in steals.

Stephen Taylor, Jr. 2nd Team All District. Taylor averaged 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds to go along with 2.3 steals.

Zack Gentry, So. 2nd Team All District. Gentry was second on the team in steals (3.5) and third in rebounds (5.2).

Monroe Knowles, Fr. 2nd Team All District. The freshman came on late in the season and saw big minutes in district play. He ended averaging 3.4 points and 2.5 assists.

Daniel Hernandez, Jr. Honorable Mention All District Hernandez led the team in rebounding with 5.6 boards per game. He also averaged 5.6 points.

Sam Schimke, So. Honorable Mention All District Schimke was second on the team in 3 pointers making 39 treys on the year. He ended up averaging 4.8 points a contest.

Max Elkins, Fr. Honorable Mention All District. Elkins averaged 3.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in his first year with the Mustangs.

Lutheran (28-8) finished the season undefeated in District Play with a 10-0 record. They average 76.8 points per game while giving up only 58.2. The Mustangs averaged over 7 three pointers a game while forcing 33 turnovers per contest. The Mustangs will lose just two seniors off this years team, Watson and Chris Alvarado.
