The Lutheran High Mustangs scored a season high 18 runs to win their second straight game, knocking off the Winston Eagles 18-7 in non district action. The Mustangs scored fourteen runs in the first three innings to cruise to the victory.
The Mustangs kicked the scoring off in the first inning with an RBI by Elijah Biedinger to score Dawson Dullnig to take a 1-0 lead.
Later in the second inning, a double by Chris Alvarado scored two more runs. That was followed by the an RBI single by Sam Schimke to push the lead to 8-0.
The Mustangs followed with another big inning in the third with seven more runs. Jared Sherer and Biedinger added RBI hits while Gareth Lawrence added an RBI double. Lutheran would lead 15-2 after three innings and would cruise from there.
Sam Schimke started the game on the mound and got the win for the Mustangs. He pitched two innings giving up 3 runs (0 earned) on 1 hit, while striking out 1.
Offensively for Lutheran, Dullnig reached base five times and scored 5 runs. Williams had two hits to go with 2 RBIs. Biedinger and Schimke added 3 RBIs apiece while Alvarado added two runs and two RBIs. Mikey Garces scored two runs to help the cause.
Lutheran (3-5, 1-0) will play Geneva on Thursday in another non district contest before the district season kicks into high gear. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 at Geneva.
