Hallettsville, TX-The Lutheran High Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams hit the road to compete at the TAPPS 2A District Track Meet last week. While many Mustangs finished the track season recording personal bests and setting new marks to eclipse next season, two Mustang athletes will be moving on to the Regional Track Meet.
Junior Corey Friesenhahn had quite a day as he placed in the Top Ten in five different events. It was his long jump mark that catapulted him to the Regional. Friesenhahn’s 19’0″ jump was good for second place in the event and earned him a trip to the Regional Meet. He also placed 7th in Triple Jump, 8th in the 110m hurdles and 100 meters, and 9th in the 200 meters.
Joining Friesenhahn at the Regional Meet will be freshman Noah Tostenson. Tostenson was involved in the most entertaining race of the day as his sprint in the last 300 meters of the 800 meter run involved passing six other racers to nab second place and almost win the event. He was only .25 seconds behind the race winner. In addition to his second place finish, Tostenson also placed 7th in the 400 meters, 10th in the 1600 meters, and 14th in the Triple Jump.
Freshman Clifford Geyer just missed out in heading to the regional meet as he placed 5th in both the shot put and the discuss. Only the top four advance in each event to the Regional Meet.
Seniors Ben Saravia (6th in discuss) and Gio Lanzarin (9th in discuss and 15th in shot put) also just missed out.
Junior Daniel Hernandez placed 6th in the 110m hurdles while also finishing 16th in the long jump, while sophomore Keith Dukes finished 16th in the 200 meters.
Overall, the boys team placed 8th out of 11 teams.
On the girls side, senior Savannah Senger had a pair of top 12 finishes with a 10th place showing in the discuss and a 12th place finish in the shot put.
Phoebe Lovins took 8th in the 800 meters and 14th in the 200 meters, while Ariana Alfaro was 13th in the 200 meters and 14th in the 100 meters. Miranda Nichols placed 10th in the 800 meters.
The 2A South Regional Track Meet will be Saturday, April 30th in Hallettsville Stadium in Hallettsville, Texas. The top four in each event will move on the 2A TAPPS State Meet in Waco, Texas on March 6-7.
