Girls Varsity Golf · Freshman Golfer Headed to State Golf Meet!

Canyon Lake, TX-Lutheran Mustang Freshman Girls Golfer Chanie Villarreal competed in the TAPPS 2A South Regional Golf Tournament on Monday, April 25. The tournament, hosted by Lakeside Golf Course of Canyon Lake, brought together the top four teams from the Central Texas District with those from the Houston/Gulf Coast District. In addition, the top ten individual players from the District Tournament were on the course.

Villarreal qualified for the event by taking second place in the district meet by shooting a 108 two weeks earlier.

With an opening par, the day seemed bright, but the course is narrow with plenty of trouble to be found. Although her score was not what she had hoped, Chanie finished tenth with a final score 118. Her tenth place finish was good enough to qualify her for the State Tournament.

“I’m very proud of Chanie! Though discouraged at times, Chanie’s attitude was I-will-not-quit,” said Head Coach Pastor Mark Barz. “She represented all Mustang athletes with class and competitiveness, and with Christ-like words and actions.”

The TAPPS 2A State Golf Championships will take place in Waco, Texas at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The two day event will take place May 2-3 with a 1 PM start on Monday.
