Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Volleyball · VB: Mustangs Look to Rebound After Slow Start

The 2016 volleyball season is off and running for the Lutheran High Mustangs. In a season that spans three months, a tough two week stretch is no cause for concern for the 2016 Lady Mustang team.

The Lady Mustangs opened up with a home games this past week after traveling to Tyler, Texas to participate in the TAPPS Border Wars Volleyball Tournament.

On Tuesday, Lutheran hosted Saint Marys Hall. The Lady Mustangs fell to the Barons in straight sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-15. The Barons, are a TAPPS 5A school this year, are back in TAPPS after competing in the Southwest Prep League.

Sophomore Kylan Perry led the Lady Mustangs with 5 kills on the match, while fellow sophomore Lila Williams had 4 kills. Freshman Haley Day added 4 kills as well. Williams also had a team high 6 digs, while Rachel Arnold added 5 digs.

Thursday, Lutheran was back at it, this time hosting the Living Rock Bobcats. The Mustangs battled tough throughout, but just weren’t able to have enough as they lost 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.

Williams led Lutheran with 5 kills, while also adding 3 aces and 5 digs. Junior Domonique Richardson added a team high 12 digs, while Arnold again chipped in with 5. Lillie Hall had a team  high 3 blocks.

Lutheran kicked off the 2016 campaign in Tyler, Texas, where they finished 1-4-1 in the two day tournament. The tournament featured teams from all classifications from Texas and Oklahoma. The Lady Mustangs tied Round Rock Christian (3A) and beat Casady (Oklahoma). They would fall to San Antonio Holy Cross (5A), Irving Highlands (3A), Wichita Falls Christian Academy (1A), and Woodlands Christian (4A).

Lutheran (1-6-1) will travel to Austin on Monday to take on Veritas Academy (11-0).
