The Lutheran High Lady Mustang Basketball team continued their strong start to the 2019-20 season by taking second place in the annual LHS Mustang Round Up Tournament. The Lady Mustangs went 2-1 in the three day tournament and pushed their season record to 7-2.
Lutheran High took care of business in the opening round game by knocking off Hill Country San Marcos 43-23. Maya Sanders led the way with 13 points and 6 assists. Lillie Hall was also in double figures with 10 points. Sky Denning added 8 points, and Maddie Wood scored 5 points.
On Friday, LHS took care of Dilley High School in a closer game by winning 43-36. Sanders led the team with 11 points and 4 assists. Sophomore Kamryn Boriack chipped in with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Lillie Hall had 6 points and 11 rebounds and Emma Haynes added 6 points as well.
In the championship game, the Lady Mustangs ran into a tough team in Round Rock Christian, but the Crusaders were able to pull out the 49-44 victory. Sanders again led the team in scoring with 17 points to go along with 7 assists and 6 steals. Sky Denning added 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Lillie Hall and Kate Simnett combined for 9 points.
Lutheran will travel to Saint Marys Hall to take on the Barons on Tuesday before getting back in the tournament action this weekend. They will be playing in the New Braunfels Christian Academy Tournament.
